A minty update on the autumnal equinox, winter and shorter days are coming.

There are now nine small pots of mint plants ready to plant out in the next month after the season changes, all cuttings from the ‘mother’ mint plant.

The ‘mother’ mint plant is still going fine too.

A couple of captured canine adventurers!

These guys were on the lam seen crossing Safety Bay Road by Lake Street, and were ‘detained’ before cross Lake Street. A passing motorist stopped to assist, and was able to lend us tie down straps which we used as leads.

Unfortunately although these guys had their harnsses on, they didn’t have name / contact tags [the visible green tag is the harness product tag]. A couple of very friendly and very well behaved dogs it has to be said, rolled over for tummy rubs etc while the leads were attached and tags were checked for, and sat when requested. They were damp, so it’s suspected they had been for a swim in the drain leading from Lake Richmond to the coast.

Not having tags, there was little choice but to take them home and call the City of Rockingham Ranger / Animal Control. They walked the about 1km home very well on the leads without pulling. Once home they were provided a welcome drink, and then they happily laid down and napped for the 2 hours before the Ranger came to collect them. The smaller model was regularly using the larger as a pillow / matress so they are good friends!

The Ranger mentioned he thought he had seen them before, so it might not have been their first adventure. For such well mannered dogs it’s a shame they weren’t tagged – the ‘get out of jail’ fee would been greater than the cost of tags 🙄 . The good news is that they never appeared on the Animal Control website so it’s assumed they found their way home.

A large spider, likely a Garden orb-weaver, and their web. After some coaching the web was high enough to allow human traffic underneath so allowed to remain. Unless webs are built across thoroughfares, or spiders have red on her back, they are left to their own devices around the house / garden.

The Catalpa incident was an 1876 international incident involving the escape / rescue of 6 Irish Fenian prisoners funded by Irish-Americans from the British colony in Western Australia where they had been sent as convicts. More details below.

Liechardt Loop Reserve, looking south. We’re not sure we’ve ever visted this park before although we’ve driven just north of it along Townsend Road. A small area that is likely to collect run off in winter, we’ll be back after rain to check.
